If you'd like to find an excellent introduction to flight and things that take to the air, like balloons, zeppelins, airplanes, gliders, space shuttles, and helicopters, look no further. This captivating book with its 3-D illustrations brings the subject of flight to life in a manner that is sure to fascinate any child who wants to know more about this vast subject.

The author begins with a brief explanation of how birds and inanimate objects can take to the air. Next he looks at some of the earlier attempts man has made to break the hold of gravity. The ornithopter, balloons, and gliders as well as early flying machines are discussed briefly.

Aviation Milestones covers a range of aircraft from jets and passenger planes to supersonic flight and space vehicles. The final section of the book focuses on specific aircraft such as the Spad XIII from World War I and the Lancaster bomber flown in the Second World War by the RAF to the F-117A Nighthawk and Space Ship One.

Although there isn't a lot of depth here, this volume does introduce the reader to the topic of flight and once the youngster is hooked, there are many other books that will offer more detailed information.
