Jane introduces Jane Goodall as a child. Even then, she had a passion for animals and her best friend was a stuffed toy chimpanzee. She observed the natural world around her and dreamed of someday going to Africa. Her favorite books included Tarzan of the Apes, which she read again and again. Me ... Jane is simply and colorfully illustrated. McDonnell's writing never talks down to the reader, no matter what their age. McDonnell includes childhood drawings of observations made by Jane in her backyard and through books. A brief message from Goodall is included at the back of the book along with her biography. McDonnell is the creator of the internationally syndicated comic strip Mutts. Jane's story will appeal to children of all ages. Even the very young will take away the message that dreams can come true with hard work and perseverance.
