This interactive board book focuses on the sounds and creatures found in or along a river. Each spread features a touch-and-feel element that, when touched, creates the sound described in the text.

You'll find a dragonfly, two crayfish, minnows, a pair of frogs, and a couple of beavers, plus a child splashing his feet in the water. Although some of the sounds the special touch-and-feel sections supposedly replicate are actually close to the sound made by the creature, others are a bit of a reach.

For children between one and four years of age, this little touch & hear book does have some nice art work and that will probably be why you will decide to purchase this book.

But you'll probably discover it makes more sense to supply your own sound effects ('crickety croak' or 'munch, munch, munch') rather than rely on the tactile elements.

Would I purchase this book? I might, but it would be only because I like the idea of familiarizing a child with the creatures found around water. Obviously I wasn't impressed that much with the board book's touted touch and feel elements.
