Sadie Witt is a death coach. Her job is to help those who are reluctant to cross over to the light predictably called crossovers - after their deaths. She is aided in her task by twelve year-old Aanders, who is her death-coach-in-training.

Jed wants to discover what happened to his sister years previously when the girl disappeared. He is refusing to cross over before he completes this task. He takes young Sally under his wing as the child is unaware that she is dead or even what death is. Only Sadie, Aanders, and Sadie's dog Belly Lagosa can see and acknowledge these crossovers.

Sadie, flamboyant, given to flashy colors and unusual outfits, is nothing like her sister Jane, who is like her name plain. Jane is mourning the loss of her boyfriend if that is the right terminology for someone of many accumulated years.

Between them, the two sisters run the Witt's End Resort. The local Mayor is desperate to buy one of the cabins. He is one of the guys who would wear a black hat if this fun book were a western. Throw in a funeral director and a mortuary assistant and the laughs don't stop.

I did find the occasional typo distracting as well as the attributing of a conversation to the wrong character. However, from the title right down to the satisfying but predictable ending, Outwitted (the second in the Sadie Witt series) is delightful and full of out-loud guffaws.
