If the world of high finance, lending banks, and the machinations of Wall Street is your fixation, then Merger by Sanjay Sanghoee is the very book for you. Sanghoee wrote this financial thriller while working on Wall Street. He brings that touch of authenticity necessary when presenting such a twisted plot.

Driven by narration – tell not show – the story introduces the reader to Vikram Suri, CEO of TriNet. An extraordinarily wealthy man, he cannot let the chance of making more money slip through his fingers. The illegality of the method only adds to the thrill. Through a series of actions in the stock market and mergers and financial dealings that I didn't understand and could never hope to, Vik is ready to sign on the dotted line and acquire a fortune beyond most people's comprehension. That this requires a murder is only a blip in his plans.

While I really couldn't understand most of the money manipulations, I still enjoyed living vicariously among the rich and powerful. Merger is a first novel for Sanghoee but another has followed – Portrait of Malice. Corporate misconduct, fraud and subterfuge abound, enough to keep the reader turning pages to see what happens next - and to wonder if this is business as usual. With the recent downturn, it is easy to believe. Merger offers a fascinating look at the way a certain portion of the world lives.
