Peacemaker Gideon Davis travels the world trying to help differing countries reach agreement instead of waging war. When he is sent to Mohan in Southeast Asia to soften negotiations in an effort to avoid war, he finds his rogue brother Tillman is involved. Tillman has become an advocate of war and can't agree with Gideon's policies. They haven't spoken in seven years.

The brothers' foster-parent Earl Parker says he has convinced Tillman, who is accused of terrorist activities, to turn himself into authorities only if he can see Gideon first. This is where the plot takes off and leaves little to the imagination. An oil rig in the South China Sea will be exploded unless Gideon exposes himself to his brother's terrorist cohorts.

Gideon's War is a story you won't soon forget. Must a man, trying to keep the peace, start a war to do so? Agonizing question. Anything you ever wanted to know about oil rigs - and then some - makes the plot more real as the author has the reader join Gideon on the rig as well as in the waters below the rig. The harrowing ending had me holding my breath.

Gideon's War is Howard Gordon's first novel, although he has been involved in award-winning television shows for years.
