Twenty monasteries on the Aegean peninsula of Mount Athos have protected the secrets of Byzantium in a manner virtually unchanged for more than 1500 years. Until now, when Kaldis is summoned to find the killer of a monk! One of the most beloved men in the monastery apparently knew something dire that could bring scandal down on the whole Greek Orthodox Church. And so his throat was slit by person or persons unknown. As Kaldis investigates he discovers more than he bargained for. Modern international intrigues find their way into the killing as Kaldis feels he is becoming the sacrificial lamb. No one seems to want him to discover who is responsible so that he can go home and be with his girlfriend who is expecting their child. This novel combines an unexpected plot, that keeps the attention throughout, with a background on the Greek Church, which is fascinating in itself. Kaldis and his sidekick Kouros mesh well together in a team, and accomplish what needs to be done without losing their senses of humor. Prey on Patmos will accrue the same honors bestowed on Siger's first two books – Murder in Mykonos and Assassins of Athens.
