There's never a dull moment for Colorado werewolf alpha and late night radio host, Kitty Norville. Now that she's got her pack and her relationship with Ben on an even keel, she's ready to embrace her talk show once again. An interesting discussion soon ensues about a nationwide chain of convenience stores called Speedy Mart that says they're dabbling in the occult. Determined to dig up the truth Kitty decides to send former werewolf hunter Cormac, who's recently been released from prison, to do a little snooping around. A few days later however, she's slapped with a lawsuit from CEO Harold Franklin.

As if she didn't have enough to worry about, she's contacted by The Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology and asked to meet with three Iraqi veterans being held at Fort Carson who have been deemed killer werewolves. After their commanding officer turned them in the hopes of making his Green Beret unit unstoppable, he'd been killed. This left his men without their Alpha, unable to control their shifting, and in the midst of a power struggle for dominance. Will Kitty be able to help the men adjust and reintroduce them to civilian and pack life?

Vaughn has created another slick and action-packed addition to the Kitty Norville series, one that takes a poke at large conglomerates as well as the US military. The Speedy Mart storyline could have been fleshed out a bit more but the one involving werewolf super soldiers is solid and begs another look.

Character-wise, Kitty has grown over the course of the series, but her relationship with husband Ben still seems a little too perfect. Additionally, the revelations surrounding the changes Cormac undergoes while in prison make an interesting, although somewhat unexpected twist, that again, should be revisited and expanded in a future book.
