In his Foreword to The Secret Language of Your Body: The Essential Guide to Health and Wellness, Dr. Bernie S. Siegel advocates for 'paying attention to the messages from within your body'. In the Introduction that follows, Inna Segal speaks of healing transformation, and says that 'This book gives you the opportunity to understand the messages your body sends you and offers a range of practical exercises to create harmony and healing.' She advises that 'Discovering your inner wisdom and tuning in to yourself ... is a way of life.'

Segal offers her book as a reference guide, to be used in different ways, accessing information By ailment, By body part, or By color. She emphasizes that her healing exercises do not replace good diet, exercise or health care but rather 'provide additional support to allow your body to become healthier, more vibrant, and more energetic.' She suggests Ten Basic Principles for Healing, relating to commitment, feeling emotions honestly, breathing, a healthy diet, exercise, awareness of body cycles, creativity, color, gratitude, and laughter.

Though I have trouble relating to the very specific instructions provided for particular body parts and ailments in this volume, I believe that we have more ability to be in tune with our bodies and facilitate our own healing than science currently understands. Both Segal's Ten Basic Principles for Healing and general advice seem wise, and her suggested healing exercises appear to be a form of meditation. If you're interested in complementary forms of medicine, then you might find it worthwhile to explore at least the basics in The Secret Language of Your Body.
