It's Not That I'm Bitter ... Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Visible Panty Lines and Conquered the World is a very funny book of short essays. Gina Barreca admits to things that all women think about, be it grievances or personal quirks. She speaks out loud about them, even though some may be painful to hear.

Barreca speaks to women of all ages about things we obsess over, worry about, or just find annoying. She shares her insights on women aging, and obsessing over hymens, husbands, and hangnails. She talks about the mysteries of finding a bra to fit, only to have the style discontinued. She explores the trauma that women put themselves through to find a swimsuit each year. Then there is that all elusive chin hair that one can never seem to pluck out.

One of my favourites addresses why women worry about everything and men worry about nothing. Barreca asks the question, 'why is there no King Charming, and who needs a husband anyway?' Another area she explores is young men dating cougars. People talk as if it is a bad thing, yet older men date younger women all the time. From outdated clothes and hair styles to weight, relationships, and kids, Barreca enlightens the reader.

It's Not That I'm Bitter is a small book big on laughs. Very thought provoking.
