I came across an older mystery novel in my bookcase the other day and didn't remember reading it. After a wonderful but time-consuming read by Pat Conroy, I needed the whimsy of a cozy mystery. Fun!

Murder in the Mist is by Willard Scott, that popular weather man on the Today Show in days gone by. He had help in the writing by Bill Crider, a mystery writer of note in his own right.

Before his retirement, protagonist Stanley Waters was a weatherman – what else? He now owns and runs a bed and breakfast – Blue Skies – in Virginia near D.C.. A group of Civil War reenacters wish to use the countryside to hold their annual do. Little does Stanley expect that he will be shot by a minie ball and a local businessman killed by the same ball.

Thus ensues the search for the reason for the attack. As well as to discover who was actually the intended victim - Stanley or the businessman? Murder in the Mist is a fun read, with plenty of humor, a bit of intrigue, and the spark of a renewed love affair.
