In Yummy, author-illustrator Lucy Cousins brings young readers new images to accompany 'Eight Favorite Fairy Tales': Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Enormous Turnip, Henny Penny, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs, and The Musicians of Bremen.

The tales are the traditional versions (for example, both grandma and Red Hiding Hood are swallowed by the wolf, but survive his beheading) while the illustrations are strong, vibrant and childlike (the troll the three billy goats trick is as ugly as they come, Goldilocks is a charmer, and the wolf is very big and very bad). The selection also includes one new to me (The Enormous Turnip).

If you don't already have these stories in your home or school picture book collection, then get hold of Yummy. It's a well done compilation, and kids will relate to the great illustrations.
