Do you have picky eaters in your family? I sure did and would have loved to share Monsters Don't Eat Broccoli with my two sons when they were young and resisting their veggies.

Barbara Jean Hicks tells her story in verse, her messages reinforced by Sue Hendra's exaggerated illustrations of assorted monsters dining out. It begins, 'The waitress in this restaurant / just doesn't have a clue. / Monsters don't eat broccoli! / How could she think we do?'

The imaginative narrator continues to tell readers what monsters do like to snack on - tractors, rocket ships, 'fish 'n ships', 'tender trailer tidbits / or a wheely, steely stew' - and what they assiduously avoid (like 'slimy lima beans').

But though Monsters Don't Eat Broccoli, it turns out that they do find 'crunchy, munchy TREES' quite delicious, and worthy of 'Another helping, please.' Read this engaging picture book with your own little monster, as you snack on a few 'giant maples' on the side.
