Philip Margolin's Fugitive is the fourth offering in his Amanda Jaffe series. He continues to prove what a consummate story-teller he is with a tightly written plot of which any writer would be proud. His characters almost float off the pages to join readers in their own space.

Charlie Marsh, a petty crook who was due for parole in a few weeks, protects a guard during a prison riot. Wanting only to hold on to his chance at parole, Charlie is immediately declared a hero and is given early release. A quick thinking agent gets his hands on Charlie and before he knows it, he is a national bestselling author.

Jump ahead ten years. Charlie is now looking to escape from the African country of Batanga before its crazy, bloodthirsty president can get his hands on him. He chooses to return to the United States where he faces a warrant for his arrest for murder. But he'd rather take his chances with the judicial system than with a maniac who glories in others' pain.

Amanda, a respected lawyer, accepts Charlie's case and the story takes off at breakneck speed and with intrigue on every page. This plot has many twists and turns that only add to the suspense. Attempts are made to kill Charlie. Life has more than turned upside down for him. Can he beat the murder charge? Can he survive long enough to beat it?

Fugitive offers a breathtaking look at the other side of life. Once more, Amanda Jaffe is not to be missed.
