Anna's first love is Matt Perino, her best friend's brother and the boy next door. Their short, sweet and secret romance ends with a tragic accident, killing Matt and injuring his sister Frankie.

A year passes. Anna and Frankie are still BFF, but Anna hasn't told Frankie about her relationship with Matt. Matt intended to tell Frankie in a way that wouldn't make her feel left out.

Anna is asked to join Frankie's family on their annual vacation to Zanzibar Bay in California. Frankie believes the vacation is the perfect place for Anna to have her first summer romance. She proposes a game. For every day of their twenty-day vacation they'll meet a new boy, giving Anna a selection of twenty candidates. Anna doesn't want anyone to replace Matt. Will letting someone else into her heart erase his memories?

Frankie's grief has changed her. Anna is her life raft and Frankie's parents seem to rely on Anna to keep Frankie out of trouble. This is a big responsibility for a teenager. Anna is also grieving.

Frankie's habit of mispronouncing common words is more annoying than funny. How many seventeen year olds don't know the word rejuvenated? However, Ockler's sweet story of letting go of first love wins my heart.
