Clea Hantman, author of 30 Days to Getting over the Dork You Used to Call Your Boyfriend: A Heartbreak Handbook, now returns with 30 Days to Finding and Keeping Sassy Sidekicks and BFFs: A Friendship Field Guide.

In her Introduction, Hantman tells us that 'a friendship is a relationship, and relationships are hard and ever-changing and need to be worked at time and time again.' She emphasizes that 'Other girls are not the enemy' and offers her field guide on friends to help 'steer clear of the bad ones, attract the good ones and guide you to treating them well so that they stick around.'

Contents are divided into four sections (each split into days, thirty in all): How to Make and Keep Friends; How to Make Friendships Even Better; How to Overcome the Hard Times; and How to Achieve That Second "F" in BFF. For each day, Hantman offers a concept to think about, an activity to do, and a song to accompany them.

From the first day's advice - 'ask questions and then listen for the answer' - to the last, on how to celebrate a 'closeness of the heart', tips are sage and heartfelt. At the back of this helpful book, Hantman includes lists, from The Ultimate BFF Movie Marathon to The Five Other Friends Every Girl Needs in Her Posse (Wilma and Betty even show up in Great Girlfriends in History, as do Lucy and Ethel).

She reminds us that 'Girlfriends are role models; they are inspiration; they are strength. They are love.' Whether you already have solid friendships or are looking to make some, Hantman's common-sense advice and activities will steer you in the right direction.
