In this cute board book, Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants, J. D. Lester whimsically explores relationships between loving mothers and exuberant infants throughout the animal kingdom - ably assisted by Hiroe Nakata's imaginative drawings.

Lester begins, 'Mommy calls me Monkeypants ... / Just why I do not know. / Mommy calls me Shooting Star ... / 'cause I can fly and glow!' (a baby firefly). The nicknames continue through the animal kingdom with Snuggle-up (a panda treetop cuddle), Splishy-splash (frogs' puddle play), Polka Dot (a ladybug), Number 12 (in a school of fish), Giddyup (a colt), Tagalong (a small ape), Peekabo (a little roo), Funny Face (a rhino baby), and Hollywood (a tiny peacock).

Finally the story comes back full circle to end with a comforting answer: 'Mommy calls me Monkeypants ... / because she loves me so!'
