Life has moved on in the wee village of Long Farnden, England. Lois Meade, cleaner extraordinaire, has decided to branch out and open another office for her cleaning business, New Brooms - this time in the neighboring town of Tresham. Her daughter Josie is now postmistress and proprietor of the small grocery store in Long Farnden, where the post office is located - and as such is privy to all the local news and gossip.

A storefront across the road from Lois' new office seems suspect. Men slink in there at all times during the day, giving the impression they don't want to be recognized. Something nefarious afoot? When the mayor ends up dead face down in his goldfish pond, Lois once again gets involved in what appears to the police to be a crime. Having a bevy of cleaners throughout the village gives her access to information that the police might not have.

She once again becomes enmeshed in cloak and dagger work, even to her detriment. Fear on Friday is the fifth in this delightful series - the first four days of the week preceding this one. A fun read.
