This is a sweet and reassuring picture book about confronting your fears. A little rabbit (named Little Rabbit, of course) is given an assignment at school to give a report on any subject. Little Rabbit wants to find just the perfect topic, but he cannot come up with anything just right. His anxiety about his assignment invades his dreams.

When his mother explains that it is just a nightmare, Little Rabbit understands the term to be a night mare, a terrifying horse that only visits him at night. Little Rabbit puts up signs and traps in his room to ensure that the night mare will not visit him again, but of course, it does.

It is only when his mother tells him that he needs to confront the night mare and tell it to stop bothering him that Little Rabbit resolves his fear. And that gives him a great topic for his report: 'And because he'd finally stopped worrying, Little Rabbit got a good night's sleep. He dreamed about a different kind of night mare, one that flew him safely and slowly - and actually quite comfortably - up to the moon.'

The accompanying illustrations are detailed and add to the charm of Little Rabbit and the Night Mare. My family also enjoyed the author/illustrator's book Imagine Harry, again starring Little Rabbit.
