Anthony Browne, author of My Mum and My Dad, now brings young readers an ode lauding My Brother as 'SO cool' in all sorts of ways. Yet - reflecting a typical younger sibling's true perspective - a button on the front cover reads 'he's cool (sometimes)'.

As in the previous books, both words and illustrations are simple yet sincere, with touches of humor. All cool aspects of the slightly elder brother are detailed and illustrated, both looks and abilities like jumping, climbing (an envious King Kong looks on as he scales a building), kicking (on the soccer field), skateboarding, and running ('so Fast that ... he can FLY!') After all the athletics, I liked the emphasis on big brother's reading 'HUNDREDS of books' and writing stories (the latter illustration reflects images - including cool knight, cool soldier and cool giant - crowding his imagination as he pens a tale). He also blows gigantic bubbles, 'STANDS UP to bullies', and much more.

The last two-page spread shows the cool siblings side by side, as the younger concludes, 'I'M COOL TOO!' Little boys will enjoy My Brother, which just might encourage siblings to appreciate each other more of the time too.
