There are so many different ways to say 'I love you,' and this preschool picture book tells the story of how animals show their love. Soft-toned, dreamlike llustrations lead the reader through various habitats, displaying sweet pictures of animals kissing each other. Every few pages, a sloth mommy and her cub are shown kissing good night, to the point where they cannot pull apart.

The language is sing-songy:

'Walrus calf and her papa
would make whiskery swishes,
rubbing each other
in scritch-scratchy kisses.

Mama Elephant's trunk would kiss and then sway
and shower her calf with a wet, washing spray.
'

If Animals Kissed Good Night is perfect for a bedtime read-aloud with young children.
