This is one of a new collection of Max & Ruby chapter books (based on the TV series) aimed at early readers - level 2 in Key to Reading is intended for the emerging reader. This time Max is playing cowboy while big sister Ruby is trying to write a story.

As Ruby struggles to start, Max elaborates creatively on his cowboy game - involving his yellow chicks, lassooing his red lobster, and interrupting Ruby's thoughts. But Ruby finally gets a bright idea for how to write her story with her bunny brother's help - can you guess what they do?

At the back of this engaging chapter book are a dozen picture and word match-up cards that, along with word recognition and picture and context cues, should help the emerging reader develop into an independent reader.
