Claudia McIntosh's entire life has revolved around her husband Stu: pre-Stu, Stu and post-Stu. After he dies, she wants nothing more than to fulfill his last request.

Stu loved Elvis. He claimed that the three-foot bust of Elvis in Claudia's attic was actually given to him by Elvis. Claudia finds a letter asking her to return it to the rightful owner. Thus begins her road trip to Memphis.

Claudia embarks on the journey with her crazy Aunt Rae and Ivy, her friend Ben's teenage daughter. Rae is about to confront the past she left behind in Memphis. It turns out she actually knew, and dated, Elvis! Ivy's mother, Gwen, left her when she was three. Ben hopes the opportunity to bond with Claudia will be beneficial. The three ladies will discover they have more in common than they ever imagined.

While in Memphis, Claudia starts to understand the reason behind Stu's interest in Elvis. Elvis reflects our struggle between right and wrong and was a believer in Jesus Christ. Claudia comes to terms with the fact that she is afraid to allow herself to love again because she is afraid of losing the ones she loves. Was this trip a wild good chase or a chance for Claudia to re-establish her faith?

Many people struggle to get past the loss of a loved one and establish a new identity and purpose in their lives. Elvis Takes a Back Seat offers a quick read that nicely blends laughter, tears and love.
