FoodSmarts is a box full of flash cards (a hundred to be precise) that can be either be dipped into to learn fun food facts, or be used in a game with friends (score sheets are included). It's one of a series offering 'intriguing information about some of life's greatest pleasures - wine, food, sex, art, music and more - all in a memorable way.'

Cards are grouped under four categories - Lingo, Cuisine, Ingredients, and Wild Card. On one side of each is a true/false or multiple choice question - the answer is on the back, along with additional information on the topic. A slim booklet offers suggestions on how to make a game out of your and your friends' culinary expertise. It includes a summary of What's in Season When, and offers insight into Secrets of the Trade as well as Selecting the Best for Your Table (on fish and beef).

Do you know what a chiffonade is, what goes into redeye gravy, what bacalhau is made from, or who invented the charcoal briquette? I didn't. And though I did know quite a few of the answers, there were also plenty of surprises, as well as fascinating details on the back of the cards. If you enjoy food trivia, or are looking for a mouthwatering game to play over the holidays, look no further than FoodSmarts.
