This picture book about bedtime is reminiscent of Harold and the Purple Crayon. Lucy is not able to fall asleep, so she decides to draw. Her creation turns into a monster, who jumps off the paper and plays with Lucy.

The two of them play until they wear each other out, but now it's Monster's turn to refuse to go to bed. Finally, Lucy reads to him until he falls asleep, and then she follows suit.

The sparse though colorful drawings are sweet - the blockheaded monster is cuter than he is frightening. While Go to Bed, Monster! is not my favorite bedtime book, it still would make a nice addition to any child's book collection.
