Penguin, James Bland, gives Chet Gecko some sleuthing competition in the twelfth installment of Hale's hilarious mystery series.

First the broad butted penguin is given the extra Madagascan Hissing Cockroach muffin which the cafeteria lady usually saves for Chet. Then he takes Chet's place at the lunch table where he brags about his detective work. When the penguin solves a crime that has stumped Chet and his friend Natalie, Chet is so jealous he could eat nails. When James Bland turns up missing, Chet becomes the prime suspect.

Young readers will find it hard to put down this quick-moving mystery with its comical, entertaining characters and humorous one liners.
