Cyd Moore's effervescent illustrations add to the joy. And what better base for happiness than the birthday party we find inside If You're Happy and You Know It? Rabbits and a kitten are getting ready to celebrate Monkey's birthday with a surprise party - they clap their hands in anticipation as they prepare and mail the invitations to various animal friends (I love the raccoon) - who also clap their hands in happy surprise when they open the envelopes. So far it's familiar, but where did the bananas come in? They certainly add to the fun with fruit-shaped balloons, and the refrain, 'If you're bananas and you know it, let it ring: ding-a-ling-ling.'
