It sure is 'rhyming cats and dogs' in bow wow meow meow, with 21 poems and paintings of our favorite friends in fur. Though the poems are all wonderful, it's their combination with insightful paintings that raises the bar for this engaging picture book - for example, The Bloodhound's nose, with its 'scent-sational senses', is a second doggy face and the picture in Dog Log maps a canine's daily activities to a dog brain.

There's The Chihuahua that 'can bark a brouhaha', and plays on words from 'whippet in a race' to 'pet-igree' and 'fur-ocious'. A curly Poodle poem, the spotted Dalmatian one, and an Ocelot question mark all made me smile, while The Bulldog, The Dachshund and The Pointers made me laugh. And I too 'wonder how sheepdogs can see.' Being a catlover and owned by felines, I adored Cat Chat - 'You make a fuss. / You're cur-i-ous' - and appreciated the 'I'm the boss' Siamese.

It's funny, punny and playful, and not just for the kids; bow wow meow meow should be savored by pet lovers of all ages.
