Episodes of the Crime Through Time series are narrated - in journal format - by young sleuths. Black and white illustrations (sketches of people and maps and scenery) fill in the context, while sidebar tips and factoids provide insights into the history of the PI trade, forensics, etc.. At the back of each episode is a newspaper, The Inspector, full of fascinating stories.

Iced! begins on June 2, 2007, as Nick Fitzmorgan (a walking lie detector) trails a suspect, wading through a swamp. His training mission at the Private Detective Academy is terminated with a summons to Judge Pinkerton. The Judge can't continue his training as she herself is going undercover on a case. She sends Nick home to his adopted father in Hollywood Hills. Nick ends up home alone! A mysterious foreigner shows up, tosses a skull, and runs. Nick finds his Dad's blood on the MP3 player, clues in a song lyric, and yak hair on the skull.

The Judge sends Maura to help Nick, and they dig into a mystery involving a expert mountaineer (George Mallory) who died on Everest. Maura flies them to Nepal, but can Nick trust her? Can he trust anyone? Of course, the young PI solves the puzzle his Dad left for him in this intriguing mystery, first in a great new series.
