T
he Little Golden BooksŪ reprint of the classic
Tawny Scrawny Lion
was written by Kathryn Jackson, with pictures by Gustaf Tenggren. They are a match for this story of '
a hungry lion, who never could get enough to eat.
'
T
he thin lion '
chased monkeys on Monday - kangaroos on Tuesday - zebras on Wednesday - bears on Thursday - camels on Friday - and on Saturday, elephants!
' Given all the prey the lion took, he '
should have been as fat as butter.
' However, the more he ate, the thinner and hungrier he became!
T
he animals had a meeting and appointed the little rabbit to talk with the lion. Rabbit looked at the lion and told him how very thin he looked. He invited him home to have dinner with all his brothers and sisters. The lion waited while rabbit filled his basket with fish, berries, mushrooms, and herbs to add to a pot of stew.
A
ll the big animals found it a mystery when their weekdays passed without being chased by the lion. They dressed in their finery, and visited the rabbits' home to find out what they talked to the lion about. Can you guess? The answer is in this storybook for preschoolers. Read it along with a special CD of music and sounds that come in a soft plastic cover. Happy reading and enjoy the carrot stew!
