I love the goofy illustrations in this engaging what if picture book, If I Had a Dragon. Morton's Mom tells him to play with his brother, but big brother doesn't want to - 'He's too little.' Morton wishes his small sibling 'would turn into something fun', like '... a DRAGON!'

But then young Morton follows his imagination down the road of reality - in taking walks together, playing basketball, swimming, playing hide-and-seek, catching a movie, and whistling (just guess what happens when whistling dragon breath!) Morton concludes, 'I guess a dragon doesn't make a very good playmate after all' and he settles for the one he has at hand.

While If I Had a Dragon is a hilarious depiction of what the mythical creature might really be like as a playmate, it's also a good lesson in thinking things through - sometimes it's not really good to get what you wish for.
