Leslie Sansone is the popular creator of an in-home walking video/DVD series, and a companion book, Walk Away the Pounds. Now she offers a new manual on 'pattern-busting activities ... to break you out of old habits and into healthy new ones', with over 80 tasty recipes. She doesn't suggest any unrealistic weight-loss shortcuts, but rather emphasizes the importance of regular, long-term exercise, combined with common sense eating habits.

Sansone talks about 'developing a more intentional relationship with food', with the end result of eating less and enjoying it more. She offers a six-week plan laid out on a daily basis (supplying forms to track daily progress) and reminds us that 'The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories a day than you eat!' She provides introductions to nutrition, to the benefits of exercise, and to basic walking moves, including steps, kicks and knee lifts. She recommends drinking eight glasses of water a day, and includes recipes for a variety of enticing treats such as Cranberry-Almond Granola, Garden of Eden Pasta Salad, Smoky Fish Chowder, Chicken Mole, Garlicky Cauliflower Mash, and Lemon Almond Cookies.

If you're looking for accessible, common sense, palatable advice, as well as inspiration and structure for developing healthy exercise and eating habits, then you won't go wrong with Leslie Sansone's Eat Smart, Walk Strong.
