acob had many sons. He gave his favored son Joseph a special coat, weaved from many colors. Joseph had special dreams, and always understood their meanings.

is brothers, who were very jealous of him, sold their brother to a passing caravan of Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. They told their father that a wild animal had killed Joseph. The Ishmaelites in turn sold him to Potiphar, who was an officer of Egypt's Pharaoh. Joseph was put in a prison cell, where he helped other prisoners. After Egypt's ruler heard about his ability to figure out the meaning of dreams, Joseph predicted for Pharaoh seven years of hunger in Egypt.
