The first Prickly Love Story was the delightful Porcupining, by the same author/illustrator pair. Now Cushion the porcupine (whose home is a petting zoo) faces further hurdles in his search for love and companionship with Barb the hedgehog.

The problem this time? Barb loves to dance. And poor 'Cushion's rumba was rumbled, his waltz always wobbled, and his tango was totally tangled.' What to do? As usual, Cushion seeks help from friends and neighbors. The fox fails to teach him to fox-trot, he steps on the rabbit's foot in the bunny hop, and the funky chicken is a flop. This 'dancing disaster' is ready to give up when someone else steps in with an offer of lessons. Cushion learns some moves; he even manages the hokey pokey!

Lisa Wheeler's text and dance songs are funny, witty and engaging, while Janie Bynum's cheerful illustrations emphasize the humor as a klutzy porcupine tries different dance steps. Kids will feel for his travails, laugh when he stumbles, and cheer him on to the ending. Read Hokey Pokey together, and try the dance steps, for Valentine's Day.
