Morgue Mama is back! Sixty-eight and still counting, the curmudgeon of the Hannawa Herald-Union hopes to work until she's carried out of the newspaper offices feet first - if she's not bumped off while detecting first. Having previously solved a case involving murder in The Cross Kisses Back, she finds she just can't turn her back on the death of a very old and dear friend.

C. R. Corwin takes readers back to the fifties and the beatnik era as Morgue Mama tries to tie the murder of her friend to that of another man fifty years before. She and her circle of friends were involved with that victim. How could the deaths be connected? Are they connected? Even though she is warned off the investigation by both her employers at the newspaper and the police, she just can't keep her nose out of a mystery.

Maddy Sprowls (Morgue Mama's real name) is a woman to be reckoned with. She sets her goals and stays tenaciously on track until she's satisfied. With a heart of gold under her rough exterior, she thinks no one knows she can be a softie. I like the fact that Maddy is sixty-eight years-old. She proves that us older folk don't need to be put on the shelf quite yet.

The action in Dig progresses almost too quickly to keep up. The characters are too wonderful to be described in a few words. The plot is extremely intricate and Corwin never drops a thread. A good read.
