Shots ring out in a girls' room in Glendale High School. Three young women, who had been friends for years, are known to be behind the locked door to that rest room. What has happened? Why? Who has a gun? Has someone been shot? Where did the gun come from? What has happened?

To the Power of Three starts off with a bang (no pun intended) and never lets up. Laura Lippman has once again created a suspenseful and mystifying thriller that will keep your heart in your throat as the tale of these three teenagers unfolds. The plot runs the reader through the girls' childhoods, how they met, and what formed them and their ideals. Their personalities couldn't have been more different, but they meshed in a deep friendship that carried them through adolescence into the larger world of high school.

Lippman has created three very diverse characters (who could be any three young women the reader might know) and a story that is brilliant in its simplicity. The school, outside Baltimore, is fictional but frightening in that it could be any high school. That is what makes this saga so compelling. It could happen in your very own neighborhood. Don't miss The Power of Three, a great summer read that will stay in your mind into the Fall.
