A
girl begins Tony Johnston's exuberant picture book with '
a little pair of shoes / to walk the whole round world.
' Each page's verse is charmingly encircled by objects (all kinds of different shoes in this first page), and Elisa Kleven's illustrations are cheerful and full of detail for kids to explore.
E
ach page adds something new, starting with a '
shaggy dog
', a '
pokey stick
', a '
sack of seeds
', and a '
water can
'. The girl goes on to appreciate the sun, birds, '
ladybugs and ants
', a breeze ('
Sneaky breeze that no one sees
'), a cake, a book, the moon, flowers and trees. And, by the end of the story, she's back to her shoes again ... '
Got a little pair of shoes / to dance the whole green world.
