McGillycuddy the kangaroo is a newcomer to the farmyard. The cow and the sheep, the hen and the rooster, have never seen anything like him. They wonder 'What do McGillicuddys do?'

So he hops, and he jumps, and he bounces, and he kicks. They're not impressed. McGillycuddy can't make milk like the cow, grow wool like the sheep, lay eggs like the hen, or wake everyone up with a 'Cock-a-doodle-do' like the rooster. 'McGillycuddy couldn't!' He's very sad and prepares to leave. But when the fox comes a-hunting, it's all the other animals who say 'I can't'. Can you guess what McGillycuddy could do?

Pamela Duncan Edwards' McGillycuddy Could! is a simple tale, cheerfully illustrated by Sue Porter, that incorporates several important messages - everyone has a talent; don't judge by appearances; don't compare yourself with others; and have confidence in your own abilities, whatever they may be. After all, McGillycuddy did, and he could!
