Margriet Ruurs gives us a delightful Mountain Alphabet, illustrated by the paintings of acclaimed wildlife artist Andrew Kiss. There's a letter hidden in every painting, and Ruurs includes detailed descriptions at the back of the book, as well as a list of all the images that can be found in each painting, beginning with its letter.

It begins 'Avalanche slopes are aglow with aspen in autumn.' There's a black bear foraging for berries, a hairpin hike, an oblivious otter, rambunctious raccoons, and spawning salmon. My favorite text is 'A loon's laughter lingers across the lake', and my favorite painting that of 'massive mountains' looming in 'early morning mist.'

Kids will enjoy tracking down the letters and all the associated images in each painting, while adults will appreciate the beauty of nature portrayed in A Mountain Alphabet - an environmental exploration of the ABC's.
