Nobody Runs Forever is a bit of a change from the usual heist mystery. In this series, the protagonist is the one with the criminal mind - a very devious and intelligent mind. Parker is the mastermind of a group of men who have decided to hijack an armored truck containing cash being transferred from one bank to another. This anti-hero once again beguiles the reader with his accountant-like mind that must cross every 't' and dot every 'i'.

Parker's cunning is the only thing that keeps him out of prison and he intends this time to be no different. If only he didn't have to depend on other people to do their part with precision and alacrity. He is saddled with a crew that reeks of failure: an alcoholic bank heiress disenchanted with her life with a philandering husband; a tough guy who can't control his anger and tends to strike first and ask questions later; an ex-con who wants his social status to remain that way but who also wants a piece of the pie; and last, a careful and undemanding man who thinks for himself and of himself.

Pit these people against a clever and very curious police detective, a pair of bounty hunters, and the employees hired to move the cash, and you have the all the ingredients of a good novel. Prolific author Richard Stark (Donald E. Westlake) has written a clever plot into a witty and intelligent story, that gives the reader a chance to see crime from the other side.
