Mrs. Antonio (a teacher) tells her students that it's time to elect a new class president. Max and Kelly vie for the position. Campaign signs are posted on hallway and classroom walls - 'Max for President', and 'Vote for Kelly, Better school lunches for your belly!' Campaign buttons are distributed and speeches delivered by both candidates.

Election time soon arrives. The votes are cast and counted, and the president-elect gets to choose a vice president. These new class leaders work to make the school 'a better place'. Though short on text, this picture book will charm young readers with its upbeat presidential race for office, and its inspiration for teamwork. The expressive paintings in vivid colors (including red, white, and blue) draw the reader's attention to the actions and thoughts of the characters.

Jarrett J. Krosoczka's Max for President is timely in this United States presidential campaign year. The author was inspired to write the book when he spotted a poster worded 'Max for President' during a school visit. An accomplished visual artist, Krosoczka teaches illustration and painting at the Montserrat College of Art, Boston, Massachusetts.
