While restoring a valuable fifteenth century Flemish painting, Julia uncovers a hidden message, which leads her into a deadly game of chess. Determined to solve the mystery, she finds her friends being brutally murdered one by one. And when all the players seem like mere pawns, Julia discovers a game within a game, linked to the game in the painting.

This sophisticated and gripping story blends art history and life, with fascinating characters and clever chess moves. It's well conceived, well written and highly entertaining, and the suspense will keep you turning pages until the surprise ending. The Flanders Panel is an intelligent, multilayered mystery - Pérez-Reverte has done it again and given us an excellent read!
