Ants formed the audience in the first in this series of biblical re-tellings for kids, Daniel in the Lion's Den. This time a stream of leaping fish share their take on the classic tale of baby Moses and brave big sister Miriam. The author encourages readers to sing Miriam's songs (to the tune of Hava Nagila or You Are My Sunshine) and to read the story in a group.

We see Miriam singing as she works, even though her family are enslaved in Egypt. Then Pharaoh issues the terrible decree to slaughter all baby boys. Miriam helps hide her little brother and sings to keep him quiet. Eventually that's not enough, so they place Moses in a papyrus basket and launch it on the Nile, where Pharaoh's daughter finds him. I'm sure you know the rest.

A sister's love for her little brother shines from the pages of Miriam and her Brother Moses, as does the character of the boy who, raised to a high station in life, nevertheless does not forget his family or his people ... and kids will love the cute, chatty Nile fishes.
