Ford introduces an appealing new wizard heroine, (Necromancer/Enchanter/Abjurer) Aelis de Lenti, in this first of a series, The Warden. Member of a noble family, Aelis doesn't get the assignment she expected after graduating from the renowned Magisters' Lyceum. Instead, she's given a two year posting in remote Lone Pine village, where her new home is a ruined roof-less tower. The previous Warden vanished into the wilderness. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, she makes the best of it, befriends local innkeeper Rus and his partner Martin, as well as young Pips (who shows signs of magical talent herself). Aelis deals with a band of adventurers in their war wagon and becomes very close to one of them, elfling Maurenia. She gradually wins the respect of the villagers. Then, cursed gold shows up, bringing danger to the village. Aelis seeks its source with the assistance of orc trapper Tun. They face a very powerful enchanter together, and later she deals with a Crypt's undead on her own. The episode ends with the revelation of more to come in Necrobane. I can't wait!
