Otho Eskin's Head Shot is the second in a series starring Washington, D.C. homicide detective Marko Zorn. In the first, he 'prevented the assassination of the President of the United States, neutralized a domestic terrorist group' and more. Though I missed reading that one, and it would have been helpful to know the back story, I still enjoyed this episode.

It starts with an attempt to kill Marko, followed by the death of famed actress Victoria West, whom he once loved dearly. Before being called to that scene, Marko is summoned by Cyprian Voss, for whom he'd worked on the side for years. Voss wants him to protect Montenegro's prime minister, lovely Nina Voychek, on her visit to Washington. It seems that her enemies have planned her assassination, and have Marko in their sights as well.

Marko and his partner Lucy Tanaka dig into Victoria's death. Though it seems possibly a suicide, Marko quickly concludes murder. He switches back and forth between this investigation and his protection gig for Voychek. Violence steadily escalates through the story as Marko works to take down legendary international assassin Domino, who 'always favors a headshot.'

As we expect, Zorn does eventually save the day but the entertainment lies in following the nonstop, over-the top-action along the way.
