'Twas the Night Before Christmas    by Clement C. Moore & P.J. Lynch Order:  USA  Can Candlewick, 2021 (2021) Hardcover, e-Book      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson 'Twas the Night Before Christmas is a new and gorgeous picture book of Clement Moore's classic Christmas verse, A Visit from St. Nicholas. P.J. Lynch's detailed illustrations are perfect, both cozy and atmospheric. I loved the delightful initial illustrations of mice snuggled in their nest; and the stockings, tree, and gingerbread house in the room awaiting Santa. The parents 'settled ... for a long winter's nap' look appropriately exhausted. The father who wakes up and watches Santa's sleigh land on the roof, seems to be recalling his own fond childhood memories, and Santa's eyes do twinkle. As the dad waves farewell outside in the snow, the snowman seems to be doing it too. This is a wonderful rendition of the classic poem, and one that I will treasure.
