Slaton is a legendary assassin, who used to work for Mossad. He is married to American physician Christine Palmer, and they have a small son, Davy - both are now in the CIA's asset protection program. The story opens with a a clandestine meeting between the presidents of Russia and Iran in Syria. Only their interpreters are present - the Russian interpreter is Ludmilla Kravchuk. It turns out that Russia is secretly supplying Iran with a new chemical weapon. A demonstration of its capabilities is planned for the Sudan. When the Iranian interpreter is killed outside her hotel room, Ludmilla fears for her own life. She seeks asylum. In exchange for his family's protection, Slaton takes on missions for the CIA. This time, he's dispatched to exfiltrate Ludmilla from Damascus. He does it with his usual (explosive) flair, but ends up with another woman and her small son under his protection, as well as Ludmilla. As they aim for the border with Lebanon, readers also follow events unfolding in the Sudan. The villain of the piece has a surprising lineage and a new vision for Islam. As we expect, Slaton foils his intricate plot, with his usual pyrotechnics. Assassin's Strike is the perfect escapist read for these uncertain times.
