Dead in the Doorway follows Dead as a Door Knocker as the second in Diane Kelly's cozy House-Flipper mystery series set in Nashville. Whitney Whitaker, her cousin Buck, and her feline companion Sawdust are back, working hard on a home renovation, with murder on the doorstep. Nashville Police Detective Collin Flynn gets involved as well - is a romance in the works for Collin and Whitney?

Whitney is employed by a property management company, but is working with Buck on a personal project in their spare time - renovating a dilapidated white colonial as a flip house. Following the work they do together is just as intriguing as the mystery itself. This begins on a Saturday morning when Whitney has trouble opening the flip house door. Turns out there's a corpse - of an elderly woman - just inside.

The plot gradually thickens from that startling beginning. There are plenty of interactions between Whitney and Collin as he pursues the murder investigation, with her occasional help. She gets to know, and like, the home's neighbors, but is one of them a killer? The key to it all might just be a treasured peach-pie recipe. This is an engaging series.
