Set in Savannah, Georgia, this is a beautifully written story of John, a disbarred attorney trying to get his life together. His grandmother left him a house full of art, and he has become a pretty knowledgeable art dealer. But he is still struggling financially, and when a prominent Savannah businessman offers him a large amount of money to find a missing painting along with the granddaughter who took it, he jumps at the chance.

Things don't work out as easily as John would like, and he finds himself charged with the kidnapping and murder of the granddaughter. The story has many twists and turns, leading to a surprising revelation. The courtroom scenes are very good, and help the story move along.

Despite all the neat plotting, I regret to say I was disappointed at the ending. It just sort of faded away, and even the Epilogue did not provide a satisfactory solution, at least to me. I guess I was expecting to hear more about how John was affected by all the events.
