Bomber's Moon follows Bury the Lead in Archer Mayor's police procedural series starring Joe Gunther and his Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) subordinates. The fact that this is the 30th in the series is a testament to its popularity.

Sharing the stage with Joe are, as always, prickly, one-armed Willy Kunkle; his more balanced partner, Sammie Martens; and medical examiner Beverly Hillstrom (Joe's romantic interest). Beverly's daughter Rachel Reiling (now a journalist) and PI Sally Kravitz (well trained by her break-in artist father) have had growing roles in past episodes and star in this one. Rachel's editor steers her to seek out Sally in search of a good story.

A bomber's moon (a WW II term) lights the night sky when Alex Hale, a rather inventive thief, robs a home and accesses information that could net him more money than he'd hitherto imagined - related to Thorndike Academy. When Rachel hears of his general approach from a previous victim, she decides to make him her story. In parallel, Sally takes on an assignment to go undercover at Thorndike.

Meanwhile, Joe and his officers investigate a drug related murder, with more to follow. Their investigation eventually converges on Thorndike as well, and they close more than one case, including a very cold one. I always enjoy spending time with Joe Gunther and crew, and appreciate the addition of Rachel and Sally to his ever growing entourage. As always, I look forward to Mayor's next volume in this outstanding series.
